Leviticus 19:33-36

Use honest scales and honest weights, an honest ephah and an honest hin. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt.

Lev. 19:36 NIVUK

What is the relation between honest measures and the deliverance from Egypt?

The Eternal took the sons and daughters of Israel out of Egypt to deliver them from what was there and to form a different people, a sacred people. Deceit, injustice and corruption in Egypt had produced a culture of slavery and the Eternal took them out so they would be away from and stop practising whatever belonged to that culture.

Besides, they had been delivered by the One who was fair in everything. A society's freedom depends on their imitating of His way of being. Just as the Eternal is righteous, and He can't lie, deceive, nor give a false impression, He commands the people whom He has delivered to be. His people have to be like Him.

Corruption produces a society of slavery and perverts the perception of the Deliverer who is righteous in everything He does. Justice and honesty produce a culture of freedom and reflects the character of the Sacred One, blessed be his name!

Don't think that corruption will benefit you. If you are not fair and honest you will be a slave. If you practise righteousness in everything, you are like the Eternal and you will give glory to His name.

Kol tuv,

Ketriel
